Santorini International Airport
Santorini International Airport, also known as Thira Airport, is located on the East side of the Greek island, close to Kamari village. It is the largest in the south Aegean Sea and also serves as a fighter base. With its relatively small apron, the airport is only able to serve up to 6 civilian planes at the same time.
Santorini is one of the few Cyclades Islands with a major airport. It is about 6 km southeast of the centre of Thira. The main asphalt runway is 6972 feet/2125m in length. The parallel taxiway was built to runway specification. It can accommodate Boeing 757, Boeing 737, Airbus 320 series, Avro RJ, Fokker 70, and ATR 72.
Scheduled airlines include Ryanair, Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines, with seasonal scheduled and charter flights from other airlines during the higher seasons in spring, summer and fall. In 2014 the airport served 1,179,653 passengers, an increase of 31.3% over the previous year’s traffic.
Santorini Port
Athinios Port is the main port of Santorini and the busiest port of Cyclades. It serves ferries from/to the ports of Athens and the other islands of Cycldes, Crete and Dodecanese. Extensively used by hundreds of passengers every year, particularly in summer, the port of Athinios is located 10km from Fira, the capital of Santorini.
The other port of Santorini is the old port of Fira, where cruise ships arrive as well as excursion boats to the volcano, the hot springs and Thirassia. Commercial ferries arrive and depart only from Athinios, not Fira.
